Most of the people have been sleeping while watching The American. Or I have the feeling they did. I did not. I felt trapped by such an aesthetic and contemplative movie. The ascetecism of Clooney mixed to his search for (silent) redemption is just absorbing. If Anton Corbijn - who directed this film, is the one behind gigantic music videos such as Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box or Mercury Rev's Goddess On A Highway, his photographical work is also terrribly catchy.
