HULTSFRED WARM-UP n°1.
MUSIC, MISCHIEF, MALTLIQUOR AND MAYHEM.
About this time last year, i woke up fully dressed in a crappy tent placed next to a pissed fence, somewhere in the rural hillbillymiddle (Arvikafestivalen R.I.P) of Sweden and even though i still had my sunglasses on and the tent was closed, my eyes still hurt terribly from whatever light found it´s way in there.
In fact, i don´t think there was much that didn´t hurt at that exact moment; it felt like the very heart of my soul had been unrepairably damaged by those four days out in a muddy field with 20.000 other misfits, dancing, drinking and screaming, steadily tumbling down a steep hill towards that inevitable end that is the festival Sunday; The Ultimate and Immaculate Hangover.
My mouth as dry as death valley, my pants crusted with mustard and beer, ears steadily ringing, with only spare change and strange notes scribbled on crumbled paper in my pockets and shame on my mind, i rummaged together whatever was left of my belongings, shuffled away and began the excruciating thirteen-hour ride home.
It was a disaster. Im too old for this, i thought.
So, with these painful memories taken into account, why not do it all over again this year?
That´s what we thought, and that why we are getting on the road again this Thursday to go frolic at the reincarnated Swedish festival classic Hultsfred.
With homegrown photography, gonzo-esque journalism and just straight-up strange video, we will report daily from the battlefield, bringing you the grits and gravy from deep within the trees to the point where you can almost smell the poop, churros and sweat from across your glossy screens.
Anyways, festivals are mainly about the music (i guess), so let me bring you my top five must-sees for this years Hultsfred festival, because face it; that is about as many as the average visitor will manage to squeeze into their tight schedule of awkward fornicating, beer-chugging, mudwrestling, passing out in broken lawnchairs and stealing batteries for your boombox from your tentneighbour.
Enjoy, and keep yer eyes peeled for daily updates y´all.
