Yesterday is the Shadow of Today

A few events that caught my attention in the past days.

Like a diary of sort. But with music in it.

First off, I just saw that the two legends KRS-One and Showiz new album, Godsville, is up on Spotify.

Besides Showbiz, Large Professor is back with a producer/MC collaboration. He's created quite the buzz with fellow Queensman Neek The Exotic. Neek been buzzin for some time now and the title track from his and Large Pro's Still On The Hustle is as good as it get's in 2011. Listen to it here or go to UGHH for the album in it's entire.

Another golden era fella who's back is Boston native Edo. G. I haven't heard A Face In The Crowd yet, just the two tracks released on Spotify. Is it grown man rap at it's finest or just a diluted old man preaching to a choir that's feed up? Personally I think Edo played out his register in 2004. But on a Premier track...

However it's real hip hop and it makes me glad to see these guys still feel there's a need for the music they create. A toast to the beginning. I think there's a generation right now who somehow saw what hip hop was in the 90's, from an outsiders perspective. And they feel the need to preserve it as it was when at it's finest. This also makes way for the pioneers of this hip hop, like KRS and Edo. G to come back and get what they deserve. A good example of this is how Celph Titled reached out to Buckwild to gain access to his beat collection from the 90's. We'll probably never see a golden era like in the 90's. But the some of the music today takes us there and honors that music. I don't know about you, but I need that in times when rappers call their album I'm Gay, a former soap actor named Aubrey is one of the biggest male rap artist. A girl who want's her fans to see her as a fucking Barbie doll is the biggest female rap star. Straight depressing. Luckily there's a light. Besides what I just told you, Smif-N-Wessun is dropping a album together with Pete Rock this summer, MF Doom and Masta Ace is in studio together and Kool G Rap has a brand spanking new album dropping May 31th.
