SWINJ
Layers, man. What layers, mon. This ish right here makes you wonder if you can finally shake hands with that strange bowler-wearing-menace that pops up on your shoulder now and then after a picking a few plants and seeing how they taste.
Hailing from SLC, Trent Call, name-thrown as SWINJ, takes the classic into the graphic. A little bit of street-art, some commission work for breweries/musicians/mags/etcs., and portraits of "friends" I like to think I have seen before, but never knew another soul entered the world I deemed *lunar*, his work is stunning yet playfully comfortable. Call is not restricted by this medium for that subject, this paint for that surface, and in his own words elaborates his inspired process:
"I believe in process, spontaneity, and action. My style and interests are varied, as are the
mediums I use. The medium foresees the style. The interest suggests the medium. My work
combines formal academic painting and drawing with a strong interest in graffiti, comics,
graphics, and pattern."
A little bit Escher, a little Kandinsky, he's certainly knocked a flow that fits his fingers well.
